The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1888 and 1889.  It took 2 years, two months and five days to build.
The builders used 7,300 tons of steel!  There are two and a half million rivets in it!  It is 300 meters tall with 1,665 steps.  It was designed by Gustavus Eiffel.

We walked up to the 1st and 2nd levels (in a normal building: the 21st and 43rd levels.)

The Eiffel Tower was the tallest building in the world for 40 years.

The Eiffel Tower lights up in the night, we saw it light up on a boat tour we did afterwards.
We also went to the Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe.

The Eiffel Tower was lots of fun, but I was quite tired afterwards!

  1. Gerard and Jasmin look pretty tired as well. But that's lovely photo of you, Mel, earlier in the day. The Eiffel Tower is a very graceful and famous icon. Did you know the French are playing rugby against NZ today? I think that will be at about the time you travel to London to start your journey home.

  2. Hi Mel

It's the last day of the school holidays here; school starts again tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to seeing you in a week or so - I hope you are looking forward to being back!
(You've climbed as high in the Eiffel Tower as I have; I've visited Paris twice - the first time I went to the first level, the second time I climbed to the second level. I'm saving the third level for my next visit!)
